Pamper Me

Decided that today would be the day where I would "pamper myself," another great thing on my list, if I do say so myself. Started the day off right with getting a half hour massage... love it! After a long school year, it's just the right way to wind down.

Then I painted my fingernails... love me some Essie polish! Definitely going to stock up on their great colors over time.

Finally, got my hair done: dyed, highlighted, and swoop bangs! New 'do is always refreshing.

Little bit of happiness: Mom made my favorite meal for supper: Meatloaf with homemade Mac N Cheese. I added my own yummy side salad to the mix, finally loving greens!

My Day in Instagrams

I am loving Instagrams!! Thought I would share the highlights of my day through them :)
I was able to cross several things off my bucket list for the year today!

Started the day with the sun!
Couldn't cross the sunrise and sunet off my list because of the storm this evening, so I will try another time!

While I was waiting for my lunch at the Mustard Seed I did some browsing at the Salon/Boutique... and found this beautiful necklace! It's been so long since I've felt okay wearing a cross and I couldn't be more excited about this one!

Had my own little picnic in the park... food was yummy and the scenery was so relaxing! Definitely going to have to make this a habit more often.

After crossing the picnic off my list, it was onto another item: fly a kite. Of course it had to be Transformers! :) It was hard to get a hang of at first, but then it had a few successful rides.

Final activity of the day was sidewalk chalk! Got it done right before it started to rain.

Little bit of happiness: It was a great day with simple activities, but I definitely wouldn't change it one bit. Ended the day with my parents watching the last installment of the Hatfields and McCoys... so interesting!

20 by 20

I finally got on the Twitter band wagon today, and one of my friends shared this article. I agree with most of these especially 3, 4, and 11! Enjoy.

1. The world is trying to keep you stupid. From bank fees to interest rates to miracle diets, people who are not educated are easier to get money from and easier to lead. Educate yourself as much as possible for wealth, independence, and happiness.
2. Do not have faith in institutions to educate you. By the time they build the curriculum, it’s likely that the system is outdated– sometimes utterly broken. You both learn and get respect from people worth getting it from by leading and doing, not by following.
3. Read as much as you can. Learn to speed read with high retention. Emerson Spartz taught me this while I was at a Summit Series event. If he reads 2-3 books a week, you can read one.
4. Connect with everyone, all the time. Be genuine about it. Learn to find something you like in each person, and then speak to that thing.
5. Don’t waste time being shy. Shyness is the belief that your emotions should be the arbitrators of your decision making process when the opposite is actually true.
6. If you feel weird about something during a relationship, that’s usually what you end up breaking up over.
7. Have as much contact as possible with older people. Personally, I met people at Podcamps. My friend Greg, at the age of 13, met his first future employer sitting next to him on a plane. The reason this is so valuable is because people your age don’t usually have the decision-making ability to help you very much. Also they know almost everything you will learn later, so ask them.
8. Find people that are cooler than you and hang out with them too. This and the corollary are both important: “don’t attempt to be average inside your group. Continuously attempt to be cooler than them (by doing cooler things, being more laid back, accepting, ambitious, etc.).”
9. You will become more conservative over time. This is just a fact. Those you surround yourself with create a kind of “bubble” that pushes you to support the status quo. For this reason, you need to do your craziest stuff NOW. Later on, you’ll become too afraid. Trust me.
10. Reduce all expenses as much as possible. I mean it. This creates a safety net that will allow you to do the crazier shit I mentioned above.
11. Instead of getting status through objects (which provide only temporary boosts), do it through experiences. In other words, a trip to Paris is a better choice than a new wardrobe. Studies show this also boosts happiness.
12. While you are living on the cheap, solve the money problem. Use the internet, because it’s like a cool little machine that helps you do your bidding. If you are currently living paycheck to paycheck, extend that to three weeks instead of two. Then, as you get better, you can think a month ahead, then three months, then six, and finally a year ahead. (The goal is to get to a point where you are thinking 5 years ahead.)
14. Get a six-pack (or get thin, whatever your goal is) while you are young. Your hormones are in a better place to help you do this at a younger age. Don’t waste this opportunity, trust me.
15. Learn to cook. This will make everything much easier and it turns food from a chore + expensive habit into a pleasant + frugal one. I’m a big Jamie Oliver fan, but whatever you like is fine.
16. Sleep well. This and cooking will help with the six pack. If you think “I can sleep when I’m dead” or “I have too much to do to sleep,” I have news for you: you are INEFFICIENT, and sleep deprivation isn’t helping.
17. Get a reminder app for everything. Do not trust your own brain for your memory. Do not trust it for what you “feel like” you should be doing. Trust only the reminder app. I use RE.minder and Action Method.
18. Choose something huge to do, as well as allowing the waves of opportunity to help you along. If you don’t set goals, some stuff may happen, but if you do choose, lots more will.
19. Get known for one thing. Spend like 5 years doing it instead of flopping around all over the place. If you want to shift afterwards, go ahead. Like I said, choose something.
20. Don’t try to “fix” anyone. Instead, look for someone who isn’t broken.

Little bit of happiness: Sounds ridiculous, but I'm kind of proud of myself for getting the hang of the twitter thing so quickly. I'm loving the Instagrams already! My first party order from Lemongrass arrived today too.

PostSecret Soldiers

I love PostSecret and I thought I would share their tribute postcards to soldiers and leave it at that for Memorial Day.

Little bit of happiness: Before we left my grandma's today we all did pedicures together. So much fun! Definitely need more days like that with all four generations. :)

Young at Heart

Pretty sure my grandma is cooler than yours...
we just had a convo about the Bad Girls Club.

Me: This season sucked, especially twins...
Gma: But did you see when Tanisha went to the twins house?
Me: Yep, have you watched Tanisha Gets Married?
Gma: Oh my gosh, isn't her fiance a loser?!
Me: Uh yea, the one with the lazy eye!?
Haha! Love my family, we're so classy :)

Little bit of happiness: Today mom and I left for Pittsburg to spend the weekend with my grandma and great-grandma! It was a great trip down and we accidentally went through the hills we used to drive through when I was little, which aren't so hilly anymore! When we got there it was time to relax out back with my grandmas and a glass of wine. Can't beat that!

Scale of One to Adele

Haha, I love Adele... time for a US tour and new CD, lady!

Little bit of happiness: Enjoyed the nice evening on my parent's front porch writing down projects for work this summer and then reading a book before the sunset!

Duck Dynasty

Made it home early this morning and ended the day laughing with my family watching our new favorite show, Duck Dynasty. Enjoy:

You have to watch it to understand how truly hilarious these guys are, especially Si.

Little bit of happiness: It's always good to come home for a visit. Today I also went to Wichita to take the GRE... which made me feel dumber than a box of rocks, but oh well! Then it was on to Kirkland's and Chipolte.

Another School Year Finished

Little bit of happiness: LAST DAY OF WORK!!! Celebrated with my teacher friends with a little get together. I also signed my first Lemongrass consultant underneath me today!! It's crazy how fast all of this is going.

Making a Dream Reality...

So last year I said that I really wanted to volunteer in an orphanage in Africa this summer... well, the funds just aren't there. Really, it's my own fault since I didn't take any active measure to save money for it. I should know that money just won't appear out of nowhere. So I'm thinking that I would like to save the money that I make from being a consulant for Lemongrass Spa Products in the next year so I can do this next summer before there are any chances that I have other things tying me down. Some people think I'm crazy for wanting to do this, but maybe this pictures will show you why better than I can explain it:

Little bit of happiness: Today was my first Lemograss party, an open house at my house, and it went really well! Can't wait to share it with more people!

Upgrading

WOOOHOOO!!! New living room set-up for this girl! So excited, and it is so much more relaxing for me. I'm thinking it will also be harder for me to want to leave my stuff out too. Thanks mom and dad!!

Little bit of happiness: After mom and dad made my day with the couches and new kitchen table, I read for a bit and then got things ready for my first spa party tomorrow.

Live in the Now

Little bit of happiness: On a day where I spent most of the day cleaning to prepare for a visit from my parental units, the happiness came from catching up on 2 weeks of Ellen Degeneres.

Ready to say Bye, Bye to Brownback

I normally don't get into politics at all... Yes, I'm that bad American that is 24 and has never registered to vote. However, that will be changing very, very soon because of this guy...

It all started a couple weeks ago with reading an article about allowing doctors to withold medical information from expecting mothers that would cause them to consider abortion, making abortion illegal in Kansas during the working day, and not allowing for wrongful death suits. Then, to top it all off comes this article...

So, not only is he against abortion but now birth control in general. If you think we have issues now, you wait until that is increased in 10 fold with all the unwanted babies, and the wrong people reproducing over and over and over again.

Not only is he making horrible decisions with this, but there's some things going on in Education that will hurt us as well. It's time to get this guy out and get someone else in that is for the people, instead of making new ones in abundance.

Little bit of happiness: Tonight was the season finale of Grey's Anatomy... now, even though I feel like I'm going through a break-up after a seven year relationship, it was still the highlight of my day. Bawled like a baby like old times.

Forgiveness

Tonight at church we talked about forgiving others, and man did I need to hear that message. I have several people that I really need to work on forgiving so I can move on with my life. We talked about how we should forgive others because we have been forgiven ourselves. Definitely a big task to work on, but I know it will be so beneficial to my happiness in the long run. I have ordered the book she read from called Total Forgiveness, and I can not wait to get started!! Maybe I will finally get some closure on some past relationships that have stuck with me for the worst reasons.

Little bit of happiness: The big excitement of the day was the windmill presentation... and the guy with the baby blues. ;)

Walk Down Memory Lane

I ran across some things on Pinterest that reminded me of the things I loved when I was growing up... so then I kept searching and came up with some great stuff. This is for my parents who probably dealt with these things in abundance, enjoy! :)

The suprise puppies!! My dog had two puppies, which saddened me. But everything was all better when my suprise kitty had six!! Oh, happy day!

This was my absolute favorite book that my great-grandma probably got sick and tired of! I have in on my bookshelf now.

Dinosaurs! Enough said.

FernGully... good grief we wore that VHS tape OUT!! I bought it on DVD a while ago and tried watching it again... I swear the creators were on acid (or just Robin Williams). I have NO IDEA why I loved this, sorry mom and dad!

Darn ole Polly Pocket... thought I needed the whole city in a box at the Toy Story. My mom and dad bought it for me, and then I never played with it and constantly heard about it.

LOOOOOVED me some Lisa Frank on my trapper keeper, folders, pencils, coloring books....

Who didn't play MASH growing up?!

These things are called Pogs... I have no idea what they are for, I just remember having them and wanting more?!

Making your own outfits! I saw these for sale on a vintage site recently and almost bought one for old times sake.

Oh holy Beanie Babies. I thought I needed a new one every week. My favorite was Chocolate the Moose.

Jelly Shoes!! Maybe that's why I have flat feet now.

Good grief, Fruit Stripes were like gold... now they are just the gum that loses flavor the quickest.

I wore my Skip-It out!!

Even though I got my ears pierced after kindergarten I remember these things very well.

I don't think I will ever out grow The Land Before Time :)

Zoobilizoo... so creepy now.

Little bit of happiness: Another extremely long day... worked the gates again at the softball games, for like 6 hours. It was all worth it though, our girls won the tourney and once again will be heading to STATE!! Yay, Lady Lancers!!

Forever

The last time I was home my dad and I laughed about this video and thought I would share it in case some unfortunate soul missed it a few years ago:

LOVE IT!! :)
If I ever get married and the poor guy would allow me to do something like this I totally would. However, my mom and grandmothers have requested to be involved in the dance too! Haha, love my family.

Little bit of happiness: It's been a BUSY day!! At school we had a celebration day with Tie Dying t-shirts, Picnic in the Park, and Pie in the Eye. Right after school I headed over to the softball field to work the gates at the game. Love the end of the year festivities!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to my wonderful mother and grandmas!! Don't know where I would be with out you ladies. LOVE YOU!!

Little bit of happiness: Sundays have become my favorite days of the week. Start it off with church and then lunch with some friends, come home and take a nap, do a little cleaning, and trash TV watching/reading. Oh, and 4.5 days left with the kiddos! Need to start studying for the GRE, eeek.

Let's Try Something New

Once school is out I would like to something different and crazy with my hair that I have never had the guts to do before. I saw someone's hair that my hairdresser had done with bright red highlights framing the face and I thought it was so much fun! So I will go a little darker and add some fun touches around the face. Here's a little idea, but I think mine will be a little more "reserved" and long.

Little bit of happiness: Instead of clean, clean, clean I did some baking and relaxing. Made some funfetti cookies, yummmmm! Also a lot of reading. :)

Power of Positive Thinking

In addition to the Happiness is a Choice Wednesday night Bible study, I have found a lot of positive encouragement in some very unexpected places.

Starting with a book by a Jersey Shore cast member:

Weird, I know, right? I have been extremely surprised with the good stuff in his book so far. He has some great ideas that work for him, all based around the idea that you are in control of your thinking. It's started off with listed the negative thoughts you have throughout the day and how to turn those around into postive thoughts. Also, when you get stressed just stop, close your eyes, and listen to whats going on around you. I've only had these tools under my belt for a day, but it has helped already. I always knew Vinny was my favorite guido! :)

I was also looking for a free e-mailing daily devotion for singles when I came across the one from the author of this book (which I have not read yet):

Today's devotion was all about it's all in God's timing, which is something I need to really work on embracing. I wanted to find a devotion for singles because I find a lot of others have been mixed in with the roles of being a mother and wife, and obviously I'm not there yet. I wanted a message that I would get something out of each day, and not just here and there. I look forward to these e-mails each and everyday.

Little bit of happiness: Another good night watching the softball girls mercy rule yet another team with plenty of homers. I did get pegged by a foul ball, but I was just glad it hit me instead of my friend and her kiddos in front of me! This big ole thigh can take it. :)

Preach, Mr. President, Preach!

LOVE IS LOVE.
I've been told in the past what type of person I'm EXPECTED to date/marry... but I can't imagine not being allowed to LEGALLY.
Little bit of happiness: Yesterday I submitted my 3 party committment sheet so I could get my Starter Kit of goodies from Lemongrass Spa... and it already arrived today!! LOVE IT!

Application for Permission

Sharing this from a Facebook friend... haha, sadly I know many dads would do this if they didn't have to type it themselves!!

Little bit of happiness: It was great to see everyone out tonight for the Athletic Banquet. I had to read something from my head coach, and man, you would think a teacher wouldn't get nervous speaking in front of people but was I ever! Anyways, it just makes me look forward to getting another season of volleyball started!!
